Geoff King

Researcher

Geoff joined Brook Lyndhurst as a researcher in March 2009. Since joining he has developed particular skills in the following areas:

Interviews and focus groups
Geoff has worked on the review of the Scottish Climate Challenge Fund (CCF) and our evaluation of the Big Green Challenge for NESTA. Both of these projects have involved him conducting numerous focus groups, telephone interviews and face-to-face interviews. In addition he ran focus groups on the Product Lifetimes project for Defra and has previously carried out site survey interviews as part of the Waste Reduction Advisor evaluation for WRAP. He has previous experience designing and analysing qualitative interviews and online questionnaires and is an Affiliate Member of the Market Research Society.

Evaluation of community projects and funds
Geoff has worked extensively on the analysis of reports for the evaluation of NESTA's Big Green Challenge and Big Green Challenge Plus. Brook Lyndhurst extracted lessons learned from the community carbon reduction projects taking part in these programmes and Geoff's work has included looking in depth at theoretical behaviour change and community engagement models as well as attempting to draw out the valuable lessons for community-based projects in the future. His work on the Scottish CCF review involved consideration of many of the same issues including: project management; messaging; motivations; and behavioural change.

Resource use
Geoff has led research on a project looking at the sustainability of clothing, and more recently led the literature reviewing and analysis on our work exploring consumer understanding of product lifetimes and durability for Defra. He has contributed to a number of other Brook Lyndhurst projects including the Waste Prevention synthesis review for Defra and a project looking into the role of labelling and portion sizes in producing food waste.

Prior to joining the company, he was involved in a number of environment related activities, including conservation work in Ecuador, an environmental research project in Brazil, and work on the Student Union Ethical and Environmental Committee whilst at university.

Geoff has an MA in Geography from Girton College, Cambridge, which included a year reading Management Studies at the Judge Business School. With studies focused on economic, cultural and political geography, he has developed a particular interest in the role of policy in addressing issues of social and environmental justice.

  • How to get ‘generation snooze’ to use fewer resources

This was originally a guest post from Brook Lyndhurst on the Green Alliance’s Green Living Blog: http://greenlivingblog.org.uk/  To use our resources more sustainably, do we ‘just need to wake up’? This is the suggestion from Generation Awake, an EU campaign fronted by three singing shopping bags, which was launched last month with the aim of making [...]

  • Brook Lyndhurst success at CIWM awards

It is not often that we at Brook Lyndhurst leave our spreadsheets behind and dress up for an awards ceremony, but we were proud and honoured to be informed that our Household Waste Prevention – A Review Of Evidence paper was to be awarded the James Jackson medal at the CIWM Professional Awards 2011. The [...]
